ORGANICA QUARTERLY

Our global expansion continued

We continue our progress in changing the wastewater industry into a more sustainable and urban-friendly one. After 20 years of experience, we have more than 120 plants operating or under construction on 6 continents and 18 countries.

Our last expansion happened in 2021, when we won 2 projects in Croatia. Through our local partner, Hidroinzeniring, we are implementing the Organica Solution in towns of Umag and Novigrad on the Adriatic coast with a combined capacity of 18,500 m3/d. Winning these EU-funded public tenders is a major milestone for us, confirming our competitiveness in Europe and the added value of our Water Resource Gardens.

How to achieve space efficiency in an ultra-expensive city center, like Jakarta downtown?

Is it possible to build a wastewater treatment facility in a district, where a m2 land is over $20,000? First the idea might seem insane, but with a concept of a small footprint Water Resource Garden, it is the only solution both from ecological and economical point of view.

Our Thamrin Nine project in Jakarta, with a signature address right next to the Waldorf Astoria Hotel under construction proves that high land value is not a barrier anymore of treating the wastewater where it is generated. This 2,000 m3/d Water Resource Garden will treat and recycle wastewater from a mixed-use development, located smack in the center of this city of 11 million people. The Thamrin Central Business District will be opened in 2022.

This will be an outstanding example how wastewater treatment can be transformed into Water Resource Gardens and a testimonial that wastewater treatment plants can be much more than an unpleasant necessity; as an integrated, botanical-garden like element serving sustainable needs of dense urban areas.

World Bank finances the 6th Organica Plant to clean River Ganga

Cleaning the River Ganga in India is a challenge we are strongly committed to. Therefore, we are truly honored to get the chance to build the 6th Organica Facility in the framework of the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) that will meet the strict NGT effluent norms and also includes 15 years of Operation and Maintenance.

This World Bank financed project (45000 m3/d capacity with Power generation) will be realized in Bhagalpur based on a Concession Agreement between NMCG, Bihar Urban Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (BUIDCO) and a JV of Adani Enterprises with Organica

More than 15% decrease in energy consumption

Besides providing the Organica Solution for new and existing wastewater treatment plants, we support our partners, who want to improve the operational efficiency of their existing plants. In 2020 we have extended our Performance Optimalization Services to four trains of the South Pest WWTP in Budapest (80,000 m3/d). Based on a recent study our Aeration Upgrade Service resulted not only in properly aerated reactors but also in 15% lower energy consumption.

As a result of the success of the project we continue analyzing, finetuning services and planning the upgrade of the remaining lines. This will contribute to an even more optimized operation with significant cost savings. None of this would have been possible without the continuous support and open-minded cooperation of the leadership of BudapestSewageWorks (FCSM).

Wastewater treatment facility along a Formula E racing track, why not?

In recent years Ancol, accelerated to become the most sustainable city of Indonesia. In June the city will host the E-Pix FORMULA E, the international race of electric cars. Hosting the event is not the only sign of their efforts to switch to environmentally friendly approaches. Close to the racing venue, in Taman Impian Ancol, Indonesia, also known as Ancol Dreamland an integral part of Ancol Bay City, a resort destination located along Jakarta’s waterfront a 4000 m3/day capacity wastewater treatment plant is under construction.

Organica Facility will be located in one of the zones of the amusement park, called Ecopark Ancol, which offers Education and Adventure theme. The leadership of the Ecopark demonstrated a highly open-minded approach and decided to use our solution not only as a pure wastewater treatment plant, but also to serve EDUTAINMENT (educational+entertainment) purposes. This way the Organica facility will treat wastewater from commercial establishments (hotels, restaurants, theme park) and at the same time educate the visitors about the wonders taking place in our system that is inspired by nature executed by combining various engineering disciplines in perfect harmony. Treated water might be reused at a later date as this establishment utilizes seawater desalination to meet their clean water needs.

Microsoft chose Organica as a prime example

We have been using powerful Microsoft tools (Azure and Power BI) for optimizing energy usage at South Pest WWTP. Microsoft judged our high-level integration of the tools quite impressive and decided to feature us in a case study. Check out the short video to learn more about this exemplary application and also to realize that we have many movie talents amongst our colleagues 😉
